Northern flour tortillas "tortillas norteñas" are Mexican tortillas made primarily from wheat flour, water, fat (lard or oil), and salt. They are called "norteñas" ("northern") because they are typical of northern Mexico, especially in the states of Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, and Nuevo León.
Flour tortillas are not only consumed in Mexico and the United States, but throughout many other countries, especially Central American countries.
Because of their size these tortillas are usually used to prepare burritos.
